Education Department, Chandigarh Administration has introduced Skill Courses in Govt. Senior Secondary Schools of Chandigarh in the year 1987-88 at 10+2 stage. Presently, there are 21 Skill Courses in 23 Govt. Senior Secondary Schools. These courses are broadly classified under four heads namely: Home Science, Health and Para-Medical, Engineering and Commerce. All the courses are skill oriented and match the changing scenario of the economic activities in and the city of Chandigarh. As a result, a good number of Skill Course pass outs are able to find placement either in jobs or in higher level courses. After completion of 10+2 with any Skill Course, avenues are open for wage employment, self employment and higher education.
SYLLABUS:
This is prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi.
DURATION:
Skill Courses are of 2 years duration viz. 10+1 and 10+2.
EXAMINATION:
The examination of 10+1 is internal and that of 10+2 is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education.
CERTIFICATION:
Pass outs of Skill Courses are awarded certificates by the CBSE declaring them successful in 10+2, by having taken Skill subjects.
FEE:
Same as for the students opting for Arts and Science subjects in Govt. Sr. Sec. Schools.
ELIGIBILITY:
A student who has passed Class X examination is eligible for taking admission in Skill Courses.
BOOKS AND OTHER READING MATERIAL:
Books are prescribed by Central Board of Secondary Education.
School Libraries have the necessary reference books to be used by the students.
